BEHIND THE SCENE AT ‘BULLYS TV SHOWS’
Perhaps it may seem pretentious to begin an interview talking about oneself, but I think that a personal introduction is necessary to explain the how and why all of this started. Now, where ever I have traveled many of you had shown interest. So, what better way to tell you the story than to premiere our own magazine.
My name is Juan, many of you know me as Juanele Bully TV shows. It was back in 2013 when I had my first contact with an American Bully. I was very lucky that that first Bully I saw was Gran Dali. I got to know this breed through the breeder Victor Peon. He was the one to introduce me to this world. Everything began when he came to me with a proposal to record Gran Dali and take some photos of him. I dedicate myself to audiovisuals but outside of the show dog world. He convinced me and so we did a shoot. We took advantage of the video and the photos. Victor thought they were funny. I remember him saying, ‘they are really good photos for a calendar but you really have no idea how to shoot this breed.’ That is why I always say that photographing a specific breed has nothing to do with professional photography. The years of experience and working with a specific breed really are important. I say that because I continue to learn something new every day. Victor showed me how I should demonstrate this breed: what to showcase and what not to to. So, in-between what he knew and I knew we turned out a good piece of work. I think that to be a photographer specialized in a pedigree is much more than just having a camera and knowing how to take pictures. For that reason, I spent two years taking shots of my friend’s dogs. Only after that could I say ‘ Yes, now I am a professional photographer specialized in the American Bully breed.’ Sadly, more and more I see photographers from other sectors, coming into this small world. They copy a style of picture that they sell without reservations and market them like professional breed photos. I see it with dogs who later you meet in person and realize that they have been treated unfairly because the photographer didn’t know how to capture the potential of the dog. Well, you know, like in all professions there are opportunists.
When I began there wasn’t a single photographer specialized in the breed in Europe. The role models for a good professional that I had were 818 CONCEPTS, there they are always looking for expressions and spontaneity in the dogs, and TOYSOLDEIR, there they work more with arrangement, landscape and the like. They were both good references, for me the best, but after a lot of trials and work, photographing more and more dogs, I conquered the formula to make my own style of photo for the breed. A picture in first plan where each dog is arranged according to their proportions so that they are always seen favorably with as much detail as possible. The rest is made up by the variety of dogs that I have worked with and my experience.
BULLYS TV SHOWS, the brand as is, was born after I attended my first show that was organized by Serio Dufort in Madrid. That was the first show I edited. It happened casually. I recorded a few of the attendees, taking special care to showcase the top models. Next, I added images from the show. Next thing you know, we had our first show recording in Europe; something that is very common in America but the culture hadn’t arrived here just yet. Since that show we have attended many more shows in Europe, Spain, Italy, France, and the last show for TOP BULLY in Gijon(Spain).
Since then BULLYS TV SHOWS, the brand, after seven years of hard work, is recognized all throughout Europe and in other corners of the world. Specializing myself into a breed photographer and traveling all over the world have changed two passions into my profession. As many of you know the American Bully breed has us all head over heels.
Like always the magazine is a fruit of the passion for the work. I always like to thank all those who have confidence in me to show the pictures of their dogs. In this way our work continues to extend our influence.
BULLYS TV SHOWS is not only pictures, it’s promotion.
